I’m a Backcountry Woman!
January 18, 2009
I left New York a week ago today . . . but, I’m so glad I didn’t leave on Thursday!!
Yeah, not-so-cool for a plane to crash into the water after trying to take off from LaGuardia — which is the airport I went in/out of (I definitely would’ve had nightmares for the rest of my life if that happened to me)!
So . . . the plane ride was a bit rough at the end, as we had to land in a blowing snowstorm! Sacre was there to pick me up, so we headed back to his place & we proceeded to drink some vodka as he showed me around his yard where he’s making a fort & a snow cave (he’s just waiting on more snow at this point). Boys will be boys!!
In other news, one of my friends put a good word in for me about my acting abilities & I was casted in a show called “The Vagina Monologues.” I was hoping for a funny script, but mine is pretty heavy. It will be very fun though - I am excited to meet all of the incredible women that are in the February production! I also went to my 1st poetry reading which was neat, especially because they had free wine LOL. I read my poem entitled, “Desideratum” that was published back when I was 20.
After working a 4 day work week again (I had to make up my hours @ PAWS!), it was time for the radio dance party event on Friday! I went in early & helped them make signs for the tip jars & doors. I met a ton of people that night & had fun dancing with several boys & one of the great DJs that was spinning that night. One of the people I met was a friend of my girlfriend in Denver, so after some chat, he invited me to go into the backcounty Saturday afternoon!! Bedtime that night =’d 3:30. UGH
Saturday I was tired & not really on my game, but who could resist an invitation to the backcountry!? So I got up, made egg burittos & we took Brian’s subaru straight to Glory Bowl, located on Teton Pass. I wore a beacon, got avalanche knowledge, did the boot pack hike for 2 hours (it was sooo hot in the sun!), & we stopped along the way to bury a beacon so he could show me what to do if an avalanche did occur while we snowboarded the backcountry.
At the top of Glory, there was a slew of cute boys, all getting ready to ride after a long hike up. Brian & I selected the area we wanted to board & made our way down the North face. & down we went!! I snowboarded some of the most toughest terrain with no worries — he said I did 1 part that was more serious than double black diamond!! OK, so you know me – I try to just go with the flow . . . but I do have to mention that I did faky when going left, it just made me feel more comfy than making full turns on my toe edge. But I DID do full-on backcountry - & it was SOOOO totally awesome
THEN, after some killer sandwiches, I got ready for a huge party that JH Snowboard Magazine puts together @ Snow King. Although my body was tired, I wasn’t so tired that I couldn’t just party again for a 2nd night in a row – but this time in 4 inch heels! Me, Renee & Andrea did it up, lady style!
& now I’m paying for it. Must get sleep soon LOL
So, that’s it for my 1st week back in Jackson!
It certainly wasn’t dull, fer sher

Goodbye East Coast!
January 12, 2009
Well, time has definitely flew by!
After Becky’s big birthday outing in Stamford, it was time to chill a little. I went to lunch with Laurie, & we chatted about everything under the sun. Then Bernie came to pick me up for dinner at 3 Bears restaurant in Weston. Afterwards, we enjoyed drinks & played with his frisky kitty cat named “Dude” before retiring for the evening.
Bernie then brought me to down to Norwalk so I could have lunch with some ladies from webloyalty (2 of them are Directors now !!) Then I took a walk around 2 floors of unending cube-land! It was fabulous seeing everyone, from the little guys to the big-whigs
After cube-hopping for a few hours, I headed down to SONO with Cara, Daniel & Bobby for a few drinks & eats. We didn’t stay out that long (we’re all getting’ too old for this stuff LOL), but we had a fun time. It was great staying with Cara in Newtown, Connecticut — at her lovely New Englandy house with a pretty Christmas wreath on each window.
The next day I met with my financial advisor & chatted about the changing stock markets. Looks like I’m going to play the market to get some $$ back into my account!! Then it was off to lunch with my pal, Jason at an Irish pub. I hung out that afternoon at his real estate office in Stamford until Billy picked me up for dinner. From there, it was yummy PF Chang’s & drinks on the town. Stamford had some hail that night & the roads were really slippery . . . good thing I had a few drinks before falling down on the pavement because it didn’t hurt at all! The next day I returned to LI via train & brought my momma to a Dr’s appointment. We then enjoyed dinner & a movie at home.
Friday, I had lunch with my old boss, Doug, from Symbol/Motorolla. I’ve also been enjoying some down-time here & there with my mom — but I also visited my dad’s sister in the Bronx, subwayed on over to NYC to meet Kev & Kim for brunch & then later met up with Bryon (my couchsurfer pal) for a few drinks yesterday. Last night I was a bit stressed out though, trying to pack all of my belongings into my bag to equal 50 lbs! I still wound up checking 2 bags (& paying for both) UGH!
& now I’m at the Denver airport — DELAYED!!
But, I’m goin back to Jackson fer sher at this point!
Which means I’m going to have to get used to a few things that just won’t exist anymore, like . . .
Traffic jams from hell (oh darn!)
Eating out & partying every night (def gained extra poundage on this trip)
Going on shopping sprees for myself (LOL)
Driving to-&-fro in a Lexus (I’m still undecided if I should buy a car yet)
Seeing seagulls in the sky (I got my ocean fix!!)
However! This also means that I will now be welcoming:
My mountain bike (I miss it!)
Snowboarding whenever I want (whoop whoop!)
Below zero temperatures (yeah, well – it comes with the territory!)
Power yoga on Mondays (too many couches messed with my back)
Running the snowy streets of JH with my neigbor’s pup (& yaktracks!)
So, although I’ve said goodbye to many fab friends here in the east, I am blessed to have some fab friends in Jackson that are about to welcome me back! One of them told me I was away for too long — she’s been going through “Rose” withdrawal!!
& now, I’m heading back to my log cabin studio in beautiful, wild Jackson Hole.
Time to rock on, detox a bit & chill out!

It’s NYC time!
January 5, 2009
I’m so glad I prepared in advance for my 8 day couchsurfing event!
I had dinner with Nico & her boyfriend in Bushwick, Brooklyn. We ate some leftovers, watched my fav movie, ate cookies & drank some wine. The next day I met up with Jordana at her workplace in NYC (Equinox Gym) where I purchased the coolest ‘Sigg’ water bottle. From there I went to Lynn’s new studio apartment in the city. We had chicken parm & pizza delivered so we could continue the girl chatting, drink champagne & prepare for a big New Year’s night out. I borrowed one of Lynn’s hot dresses & then decided to go bare-legged in the 15 degree weather.
The bar we picked was cool to start, but then it quickly became packed & annoying around midnight — but we left there to go to a ritzy house party. Now, understand that New Year’s is the toughest night of the year for anyone to get a cab, so while trying to hail one – I innocently chatted with an NYPD cop. I told him about how I was freezing even though I live in Jackson Hole, Wyoming (I just found out it was 23 below there today!) & they took pity on us. So, 2 single NYPD cops gave us a 15 minute police car ride back to Lynn’s place — how funny!
The next day, Lynn & I ate yummy omlettes at a restaurant called Jackson Hole & we went over to her friends sauna to relax a bit. Later that night, I had an italian dinner with Alex, Becky & her boyfriend. My mom then picked me up the next day & we drove to a town near Storrs, Connecticut to see places where I grew up & stay overnight with some cousins. It was great to see them. The next day I got my Ouidad haircut (finally!) & got ready at Becky’s for her 30th birthday night out in Stamford. We had a fun time drinking, dancing & partying the night away!
The pics tell the stories — enjoy!
Oh & P.S. — my last voice over project has been posted online!
