Working for the Democratic Party convention this past Friday & Saturday was interesting. Met some influential people which has now led to a consulting meeting for tomorrow evening & the possibility of attending a future party held by a famous snowboarder! LOL  I worked an AM & PM mountain bike trip for TMBT this Sunday. They were both private rides & both families were lovely. One was from Georgia & the other was from New York city! After that, I BBQ’d with the neighbors & we befriended a baby magpie that was disoriented after flying into their house by accident. Cool birds that hang in the Northwest, more about magpies: http://identify.whatbird.com/obj/74/_/Black-billed_Magpie.aspx

A guy I know heard me on the radio the other day & said it was “the coolest.” That was great to hear! I plan to do an ongoing live radio show soon! Also, I met with another consultant in town – originally from California. She was able to give me a few great pointers. And a pure stroke of luck put me in touch with a great guy that’s done voice over for years. We met over dinner to discuss future projects & I plan to work with him in his studio. I may even decide to set up my own studio after a few months of giving this voice over thing a go!

I’m still trying to find a place to live, although I was put in a unique situation just recently. The landlord likes me so much — they are waiting on me to see if I can find a roommate by the end of this month (2 roommates have fallen though at this point)!! If I lose this totally rad place, I have until the end of June to try & find another place. The market is so dry for rentals here that I may wind up sleeping on the floor at a neighbors house until I can find something.

i-yi-yi. Good thing I have good neighbors!
Ok, so wish me luck — whether I move in 5 days or 35!! :D

We are moving right into summer here in Jackson Hole — the weather has been fabulous!!

So! I renewed my CPR certification recently for work & I was the only woman in a class on 9 men! I met a cool rafting guide there & have since planned a whitewater rafting trip for early June when the Snake River is at its gnarliest :) I even get to go for FREE because I am guiding with the local mountain bike company this year!

On the sporty side, I went with my friend Kenny on his motorcycle into Grand Teton National Park. Although it was an overcast day, it was still beautiful to breathe in the mountain air & ride right on next to the Grand Tetons! Soon that Grand Teton will be mine — all 13,770 feet of it :) I also did some skateboarding in my cul-de-sac with my new friend from Massachusetts, Scotty. Of course I tried to do a trick & fell right on my bum! He just laughed & said he told me not to do that LOL. Well, you know me — I’m gonna do it anyway! Scotty & I went to dinner last night & rode our bikes to the restaurant instead of driving . . . it’s the Jackson way baby!

On the business side, I met with another consultant in town & he wants to get me involved with political party consulting this summer. Very interesting, considering I’m not political! But money will talk fer sher! I also attended a preliminary volunteer meeting for the Jackson Hole Film Festival. I’ll get to see some cool movies & rub elbows with some famous filmmakers in 2 weeks. I also recorded my second radio show at the community radio station that goes live soon! The other day I helped with the church clean-up & briefly eyeballed the antler festival (antlers are sold on the square & proceeds go to the boy scouts).

& finally, today I went on a mountain bike “guide ride” with my new company: Teton Mountain Bike Tours — it was awesome! It was great to refresh my guiding skills, except this time it’s wayyyy more specialized to this area. Plus, I get to go home every night!! Loving the Tetons everyday is what I do, so chatting with guests about them won’t be tough at all! Very soon the Tetons will be my new office backdrop a few times a week!

My friend Marti from Colorado (& grade school) is trying to make a trip up here soon & I just found out today that my friend Lynn is coming for a visit at the end of August! Oh & I haven’t found a place to live yet for July 1 — but I’ve got all sorts of feelers out all over the place! I’m totally confident I’ll find something perfect & won’t have to move again for awhile! :P

Mom’s Visit to Wyo!

May 11, 2008

It’s always fun to have your momma in town! My mom stayed with me for 5 nights & we did a bunch of fun stuff. We went to the Museum of Wildlife Art one day & then drove 4 hours to go to Thermopolis, WY for an overnight trip. We drove through the Wind River Canyon which was totally amazing, then into Hot Springs State Park. We soaked ourselves in the hot pool that had 27 glorious different minerals (the largest hot mineral spring in the world actually). Even our hotel had hot mineral water pumped into their jacauzzi! We also visited the Dinosaur Museum located in the Big Horn Basin & Legend Rock (a place where there are over 300 Petroglyphs from 500 AD).

After mom left, I had to work 2 full days in a row at PAWS to make up for time lost gallavanting with my momma (poor me, having to work 2 days last week! LOL), but I was welcomed by two 3 week-old puppies to care for all day! Puppies are awesome! I also volunteered yesterday to do the Town Clean Up Event & I made quite a few interesting business contacts there.

In other news, I recorded more voice overs for the local cable company. I plan to now approach the businesses I did the voice overs for to see if I can become their “spokesperson” & get some gigs with the radio stations which is great money. I am finally on YouTube now too, check out the video with my voice over!

I am also a part of the women’s roundtable luncheons & made a few great contacts there as well. I also met with another Marketing consultant in town & I am starting to get ideas for my business that I plan to launch full-on in the fall. Mountain bike guiding + PAWS will keep me very busy this summer fer sher! If it ever stops snowing here, we will probably move right into summer weather!

Oh, & one more thing . . . I am (again) looking for a place to move into. The rent is so high for my place, it’s just not worth my $$ or signing a year lease – so I need to be out by the end of June! I’m not sure if I will be living alone or if I’ll have a roommate, but I am excited for the switch because more $$ for me, means more $$ for traveling & doing what I want!

As always, I’m loving Jackson — but missing y’all :P
PS: I think it’s been decided that I’m heading to the tri-state for the Christmas holiday this year!

Also, I recently emailed some senators in my area to urge them to support the Climate Security Act and protect wildlife from global warming. They asked me to dispay this tag above on my blog :) To learn more about the Climate Security Act, please visit: http://online.nwf.org/climatesecurityact
