Jane’s Week-Long Stay
March 26, 2008
It’s so fun to have a girl in the house!
Fer sure
Jane & I had a great time in Jackson Hole this past week/weekend! We cooked glorious food & spent time drinking yummy Long Island Cabernet wine. Friday we went to the PAWS FurBall event at the Four Seasons Resort, which was a fun time (even though I was officially working). Then she stayed for Easter. We exchanged baskets, went to the Pastor’s house for dinner with 10 other people & then went for a drive out to the Tetons. She left Monday, but I hope to see her again one day — maybe in Portland, Oregon where her final destination will be!
So now it’s back to business for me . . . Several other jobs are opening up, so we will see what’s best to put my time into. Thursday is the Snowmobile Climb at Snow King by my house, so I’ll definitely be going over there to check it on out & take some pics. Maybe I’ll make a redneck friend LOL I’ll also be working the mountain for an event company this weekend, as JHMR (Jackson Hole Mountain Resort) will be sponsoring a luge event. Should be fun!
I’ll close this post with a poem I read the other day.
But it IS a bit on the deep side, so please feel free to skip it if you’re not so inclined LOL
I think it’s fitting, since it kind of matches how I am feeling right now (+ it mentions my name a lot)
From: The Book of Time
Count the Roses by Mary Oliver
Count the roses, red & fluttering.
Count the roses, wrinkled & salt.
Each with it’s yellow lint at the center.
Each with its honey pooled & ready.
Do you have a question that can’t be answered?
Do the stars frighten you by their heaviness & their endless number?
Does it bother you that mercy is so difficult to understand?
For some souls it’s easy; they lie down on the sand & are soon asleep.
For others, the mind shivers in its glacial palace, & won’t come.
Yes, the mind takes a long time, is otherwise preoccupied than by happiness & deep breathing.
Now, in the distance, some bird is singing.
And now I have gathered six or seven deep red, half-opened cups of petals between my hands. And now I have put my face against them.
The body is not much more than two feet & a tongue.
Come to me, says the blue sky, & say the word.
And finally even the mind comes running, like a wild thing, and lies down in the sand.
Eternity is not later, or in any unfindable place.
Roses, roses, roses, roses.

My Workplace + Jane’s 2nd Visit
March 21, 2008
Working at PAWS is great!
I am having a FAB time working there 2x a week.
& tomorrow is the Fur Ball event at the Four Seasons, so exciting!
Interesting facts thus far . . .
~ Demian & I worked on an ad together for the Jackson Hole Mountain Guides — it came out fabulous, both of our ideas came together perfectly!
~ For my new-fangled monies coming in, I recently opened a new bank account & desposited my 1st check!
~ I found out that I am definitely working for the mountain biking company this summer, guiding & writing the blog!
~ I was able to get independent contractor work through a FaceBook ad (will work on the mountain the weekend after next)!
Jane came back to town the other day from Utah & we are having a great time together. So happy for her to be here right now at this time in my life – we have so many wonderful plans coming up! Tomorrow is the Fur Ball (we will get dressed up & party!), Saturday is the new community radio station benefit at the Stagecoach in Wilson & Sunday is Easter basket-exchanging with Jane, breakfast at the church, dinner out & then 43 North for a bit of open mic night action. Much fun-ness to come y’all :P

Job Selections + Visiting Friends
March 11, 2008
My first day of work is tomorrow!
Holy cow – I haven’t worked in 6 months, I wonder what it will be like LOL
I decided to only take a part-time job for now & work 2 days a week for the P.A.W.S. non-profit organization here. I will also manage their website! Although it’s minimal pay, it will (#1) Jusssst about pay the bills (#2) Be absolutely meaningful work (#3) Work with an Executive Director that is a wonderful, intelligent, down-to-earth woman (#4) Keep me open for more meetings with other companies to do consulting on the side (#5) Teach me about the inner workings of a non-profit organization (#6) Allow me to work part-time for the mountain bike company come June!
So that is the plan for now . . .
of course I am due to go & get a check-up by every type of Doctor possible & have to pay for that outright – but what the hey! I am very seriously going to work on building a consulting business here in Jackson. I have in-depth experience with Marketing, Communications & Websites — so it just makes sense for now. Especially after meeting all of the great freelancers that are here in town that I may be able to work with! After the summer I may reconsider working someplace full-time, but for now – I feel great about the decision!
Also, Demian & I are working on a paid project right now for Jackson Hole Mountain Guides. It’s a 5×7 ad for a rock climbing guide coming out this spring. Fun! We may even design their 40th anniversary T-Shirts as well! Word of mouth is a big thing here, so if we do good – we are sure to get more jobs! I’ll be sure to post the ad when we have completed
On another note, our friend Jane & her friend Ryan came to visit Jackson Hole & we had a great time
It was fun having our first guests in our (tiny!) house with us! We went out, cooked dinner, snowboarded, shopped, etc. Demi & I met Jane when she worked at a winery in the Hamptons & we were passing through. She had mentioned that she would be road-tripping to her final destination of Portland & so she decided to stay a few days with us! Her friend Ryan has a different story, as his end is ultimately Denver – but he also has a very fun blog: http://www.getjealous.com/ryankdalton
Let’s see . . .
I am also working on a demo tape to do voice-overs on the radio. I also have been getting more involved with the Jackson Hole Community Radio Station: http://www.jhcr.org I may just have my own radio show!! & I am also researching Online Ad Sales, as I may take another P/T job in that area shortly. Oh & I am purchasing a new IBM ThinkPad laptop as mine has a problem with the motherboard & cannot be touched in any way (I am stuck in a corner with it, using a wireless keyboard & mouse)!
So that’s it for now!
As always, there are many more exciting pics to come ~
Enjoy the ones below!

The Many Faces of a Corgi
March 3, 2008
Our dog is so much fun!
I just love these pics of her, so I decided to make her a “blog hog” today ![]()
(Other/more pics are always available at the link below)
So, it seems spring has sprung here. It snows from time to time, but overall, it’s not really collecting. The snow seems to be melting! I was able to see a bit of driveway dirt today which was strange. I was told that in a few weeks I would be wearing my golashes 24/7, due to the horrible mud. Yay! Can’t wait for a muddy corgi in the house! In fact, because certain parts of the road have melted now & Hoku is so low to the ground . . . the other day, a guy yelled out to us — “Hey! Looks like your dog bottomed out!” I looked at her, & her underbelly was a lovely shade of gray & black from the mud collecting there LOL
Anyhoo, on another note – Demi is now working nights for a bit, so we have definitely been treasuring our evenings together. We went out last night & had so much fun – we forgot to take pics of ourselves! But at the very least, I finally took pics of the inside of our place. We found out recently that our place is actually an old Snow King lift shack that was moved to this location! So, perhaps I shall refer to our place as “the shack.” LOL Also, I didn’t photograph 2 other corners of our place, as I’m sure you really don’t want to see pictures of boxes piled as high as they can go :P
With regards to the job front — it’s all looking fabulous! I haven’t made my final decision yet, but plan to by the end of this week. I think the most important aspect of living that I am working towards is . . . exactly that — living! Overall, my plan is to be very flexible. It was such a unique week for me, as I had 6+ interviews for very different businesses: newspapers, graphics design, travel agencies, an old-time saloon bar, new business ventures, the local bike shop, online training, a gym and a wonderful non-profit organization. I also spoke with a few very talented, established consultants in town. Needless to say – I am working every angle possible! Having all of these interesting meetings was so invigorating & brought me closer to understanding what it is I want to do with my life!
So . . .
sorry to keep the suspense going, but I will reveal what my final decision is once I make it LOL
Happy March — Enjoy the time of the lion! (You know: In like a lion, out like a lamb – although I have a feeling that may not be the case here)
Love,
