Snowboarding, Part II!

January 31, 2008

It was pretty darn cool, taking a second snowboarding class. Plus, I am much more comfortable on the board now! I took the class with a woman who had just gotten married that morning (!!) & we had a great time with our instructor from Vermont. I did pretty well considering I got stuck in the same gully 4 times, could only slowly slide down the steepest part of Casper Bowl & wiped out on Teewinot freak-style with snow all over my face! So, let’s just say I plan to stay on the green trails again for a bit longer :P

Demian & I also saw part of a dog sled race which was cool. We brought Hoku & every time she daintily walked by the sled dogs, she caused a howling commotion! Anyway, not much else except listening to Bob Marley while making yummy dinners together (Demian loves to cook!), going to the pub after shredding (snowboarding) LOL & falling to glorious sleep in the marshmallow bed (3 inch memory foam) when our muscles are aching from excercising all day!

I’ve also been learning more about my boyfriend & his time of growing up as a boy. On the big island of Hawaii until 12, then to Joshua Tree-California for 3 years of living with strange desert people & then over to Port Hueneme-Cali (in Ventura county) for 6 months, back to Hilo-Hawaii for a month, to Hanalei-Kaui with his uncle until the summer was over & then back to Ventura California to live as a harbor kid on a sailboat. Surfing, sailing, dirt biking & skateboarding — what an interesting life he’s had! We decided we should write a book about his life ;)

Anyway! I’ve been exploring the Jackson job market too.
It’s lookin’ good . . . we’ll see what happens!

Snowboarding Rules!

January 19, 2008

Well! I have officially made the switch!
Once a self-taught skier – I have now changed over to snowboarding (which some ((skiers)) say you are switching over to “the dark side”) . . .

So, before I could actually snowboard with the massses, I had to get the proper gear — & what great stuff you can buy out here! My gear includes North Face, Marmot, Burton & Vans. I feel so cool LOL My 1st lesson went great, but I was in a world of hurt the next day (you can only bang your tailbone so many times). So I took a day of rest, AHHHHH. Then I went back out there again on my own & improved immensely! As Demian would say, I “ripped the pow-pow” (meaning I snowboarded good through the powder snow). So, I guess I’m in it for the season now!

On another note, we purchased a desk & set up our “office” area of the house. Looks pretty good considering we only spent $30 for it! We also got a dresser from our neighbor for free — so we used Ralph Lauren paint in a burgundy red & got new brushed nickel knobs — it’s like a new piece of furniture! Again, I’ll take pics of the inside of house when the whole thing is pretty much complete. Today we will spend some quality time painting our bedroom :P

So, each day is special here for me in Jackson Hole. I am learning the local culture & forever changing my East coast ways. Heck, I’m already used to not locking front my door . . . EVER. I like that there are no malls or freeways around & I can experience an obscene amount of smiling faces & waving hands. I am totally enjoying this little town of Jackson :)

I’m goin’ to Jackson,
I’m gonna mess around,
Yeah, I’m goin’ to Jackson,
Look out Jackson town.

Happy 2008!!

January 6, 2008

Hope everyone enjoyed the holidays!
We sure did — although it was a bit hectic around Christmas, we definitely enjoyed staying in bed until 3pm on New Years Day & cooking steak & king crab legs for dinner!

Here are some bulleted points for ya this time ;)

* No inside photos as our place is still a boxy mess!
* Got a hot new North Face puffy white jacket thanks to Becky & Colleen! (white may be a mistake, but who cares, I look goooood!)
* Biked to the supermarket (about 3 miles round trip) & almost said goodbye to my fingers, as they were pretty frozen
* Demian got his season pass by volunteering at the big mountain 2 days working at the snowboard park
* Walked home from the supermarket another time with a 40 pound backpack LOL
* It dropped about a foot of snow in town just yesterday!
* I have a snowboard + bindings & now I just have to buy boots & some lessons this coming week!

Time to get that snowboard butt I’ve always been dreaming of! LOL
Rock on y’all — I’m just lovin’ wintering in the mountains!!
